Welcome to the Upper North District of the Mission Covenant Church of Sweden

Our District is about one third of the total country, but looking at numbers of people we are the smallest of the seven districts. We have huge unspoiled areas of mountains and woods and a subarctic climate with much snow. Part of the District is situated north of the Arctic Circle, which means that we both experience the Midnight Sun and the Polar Night.

The area is sparsely populated, most people living near the coast.

Apart from a Swedish population we also have an indigenous people, the Sámi, as well as a population which speaks Meänkiele (closely related to Finnish). We do not provide the entire site in English, but we have our contact page as well as some other pages translated, as you see in the english menu.
