The 150-year-old Hindustani Covenant Church on Pune-Solapur Road, near the Racecourse, caught fire early on Monday morning, destroying its much-admired wooden benches, walls and designed roof, dismaying its multicultural congregation.

150-year-old church on Solapur Road gutted in massive fire
A massive fire gutted the 150-year-old St Andrew's Hindustani Covenant Church located on the Pune-Solapur road, near the racecourse, on Monday morning. While, fortunately, no one was injured in the fire, the damage inside the heritage structure was huge. The blaze destroyed the pews, altar, pulpit and the holy literature. It took the fire brigade around an hour to put out the blaze.
