In Memory of Tsunami Victims
A brief report (Dec. 26, 2005)

A solemn functions to commemorate the first anniversary of Tsunami were organised by the various organizations including the Administration of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. On Dec. 26, 2004 more than ten thousand people lost their lives. The Indian Air Force lost their 121 personnel in the Tsunami. In some places the whole family and in some places few members of the family were washed away by the killer Tsunami.
 
Most of the dignitaries remembered the loss of lives and the heavy destruction caused by killer waves. It was time to remember the loss and prepare oneself for the disaster. The Lt. Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands led the Islanders in paying rich tribute to those perished in killer Tsunami. A two minutes silence was observed.
 
The Hindustani Covenant Church along with other Non Governmental Organisations organised memorial service march in the capital Portblaire. It was very well attended programme. The Moderator of Hindustani Covenant Church Rev. Dr. Steven C. David paid floral tribute to the victims of Tsunami. He delivered memorial service speech to the large gathering. In His speech Rev. DR. Steven C. David remembered the victims of Tsunami at the same time reminded the gathering to take courage in the midst of challenges facing their lives. He reminded them the task of rehabilitation is a greater challenge as they have to rebuild their shelters and earn their livelihood. Several other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
 
A four day photo exhibition titled "beyond tsunami waves" was inaugurated by Chief Secretary Mr. D. S. Negi. Most of the NGOs' participated in the photo exhibition including Hindustani Covenant Church. The Chief Secretary commended the work done by Hindustani Covenant Church.
 
An all religious prayer meeting was also organised to remember the victims of the Tsunami and take the challenge of rebuilding lives.  The Government and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands Administration appreciated the contribution made by HCC in rehabilitating the affected people.
